Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Dahab at around 9:00 PM. From there, you’ll drive to the base of Mount Moses (Jebel Musa), where your night hike will begin. Mount Moses is one of the holiest mountains, believed to be where Moses received the Ten Commandments. The hike is about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) long, and you’ll reach the summit in time for a stunning sunrise over the desert. The climb can be challenging but offers incredible views and a sense of peace in the desert.
After enjoying the breathtaking sunrise, you’ll descend the mountain and head to St. Catherine’s Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site located at the foot of the mountain. This 6th-century monastery is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world. You’ll have the opportunity to explore its ancient architecture, see the burning bush where Moses encountered God, and learn about the monastery’s fascinating history.
After your visit, you’ll be driven back to Dahab, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel by around 12:00 PM the following day.
Notice:
- St. Catherine's Monastery is generally open to visitors daily (except Sundays), but it may close on certain holidays or for specific religious events.
- This activity is recommended for individuals in good physical condition, as it can be quite challenging, especially when climbing overnight to catch the sunrise. It may not be suitable for young children, older adults, or those with health concerns.
